Iraq's WTO Accession: Goods Offer File Updated

Iraq's Ministry of Trade has begun updating its Initial Goods Offer file as part of the technical requirements for the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The work is being carried out by the Goods Trade Committee, a technical sub-committee of the national committee overseeing WTO accession, in coordination with the International Trade Centre (ITC).

According to the Ministry of Trade, the update reflects Iraq's transition from the harmonised system HS2017 to HS2022, aligning the country's tariff schedule with current international customs classifications. The committee met under the chairmanship of the Director General of the General Customs Authority, with participation from relevant ministries, government bodies, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and private sector representatives.

Riyad Fakher al-Hashimi, Director General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, said the update to the Initial Goods Offer is a key element in Iraq's WTO accession process. The committee is to continue technical meetings to complete the review of bound tariff ceilings and related data.
