Lebanon is preparing to serve as a storage and re-export hub for Iraqi crude oil and petroleum products in the first phase of a planned transit arrangement. Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting on Sunday to review readiness across the relevant ministries and agencies.
The meeting addressed logistical and infrastructure requirements, including the rehabilitation of roads to facilitate tanker movements, upgrading border crossings to handle anticipated traffic volumes, and organising access routes to storage facilities. Preparations relating to storage installations, safety requirements, and operational procedures were also reviewed.
Attendees included the Minister of Energy and Water Joe Al-Saddi, Interior Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Hajjar, Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rassamni, Director General of General Security Major General Hassan Shaqir, President of the Supreme Customs Council Brigadier General Misbah Khalil, and Director General of Customs Gracia Al-Qazzi.
Participants agreed to continue coordination among the relevant ministries, agencies, and departments to ensure preparations are completed within set deadlines.
