Iraq's Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities has held talks with the Czech Republic on cooperation in water treatment and desalination projects. The meeting was attended by Michal Svoboda, the Czech Republic's Minister Plenipotentiary to Baghdad, and a representative of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iraq was represented by Engineer Ammar Adel Hussein, Director General of the General Directorate of Water, who said the government and ministry are pursuing international partnerships to support technology transfer and development of the water sector.

Areas discussed included the implementation, operation and maintenance of water projects, automation, energy efficiency, solar energy, and the use of European-certified equipment.

Svoboda indicated that the Czech Republic is ready to strengthen cooperation with Iraqi institutions and invited the ministry and directorate to participate in a business forum planned for mid-October, where Czech companies' capabilities in the water sector would be presented.
