Sweden's Newbury Pharmaceuticals AB has signed a ten-year exclusivity agreement with an unnamed Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturer, granting it exclusive rights to register, market and sell a portfolio of 40 products in Iraq. The deal was signed through its subsidiary Newbury Pharmaceuticals S.A.
The portfolio centres on injectable medicines for hospital and acute care settings, and includes:
- Anti-infectives: cephalosporins (cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone), carbapenem meropenem, vancomycin, gentamicin, amoxicillin, fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), azithromycin and antifungal fluconazole
- Acute care and surgical support: paracetamol, diclofenac, tranexamic acid, dexamethasone, furosemide, atropine and sterile water for injection
- Gastroenterology: omeprazole, esomeprazole, pantoprazole and cimetidine
- Supportive care: chlorphenamine, loratadine, folic acid and B-vitamins
All products will be registered and sold under Newbury's own label or brand names. The company has applied for an import licence in Iraq; if granted, Iraqi regulations would permit supply of selected products ahead of full marketing authorisation.
Karl Karlsson, CEO of Newbury Pharmaceuticals, said the portfolio reflected several years of collaboration with the manufacturer, with exclusivity across 40 products reflecting the trust built during that period.
