Stafford Clarry, Erbil airport director said that the first aircraft arrived yesterday from Turkey, and it landed on the new airport runway , which is scheduled to go through a development phase lasting several months.
The new airport features a runway 4800 m long and 90 m width which is the longest runway in Middle East and the fifth-longest runway in the world.
The airport will be able to receive 150 flights daily and accommodate three million passengers .
It was built by the Turkish company ,Makyul Genghis and designed by the British Scott Wilson group on an area of 27 000 square meters and includes 17 gates .
