Judicial drama puts spotlight on future of top Iraqi court
The dust is settling after an unprecedented crisis in Iraq's Federal Supreme Court. Barely two weeks ago, nine judges submitted their resignations, paralyzing the top judicial body.
With the surprise retirement of the head of the court, and the subsequent return of the protesting judges, the contention is seemingly resolved. However, deep uncertainty continues amid accusations of political interference and a lack of judicial independence.
