University Robotics and AI Championship Launched

Iraq's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched the National University Championship for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Applications, with participation from public and private Iraqi universities.

Dr Haider Abdul Dhahad, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, said modern education environments depend on advanced tools and software that support knowledge production. He noted that the Ministry has established ten specialised colleges in artificial intelligence, alongside new academic programmes and research centres, describing the move as a strategic investment to support development and strengthen the knowledge economy.

The opening ceremony included remarks from Dr Bradley J. Cook, President of the American University of Iraq - Baghdad, and Ziyad Shaaban [Chaaban], CEO of the Centre of Excellence for Innovation and Development, as well as presentations on creative entrepreneurship.

The championship features specialised competitive tracks covering:

  • Mechanical systems in robotics
  • Electronic components
  • Software development
  • Engineering design of modern robots
