The head of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, Amer al-Fahdawi, held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the Arab-Swiss Business Forum in Geneva, organised by the Arab-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Al-Fahdawi met with the president of the Union of Arab Chambers, Samir Majoul, to discuss ways of strengthening Arab trade and economic cooperation and expanding the role of chambers of commerce in developing partnerships among Arab-world entrepreneurs. Majoul congratulated al-Fahdawi on assuming the federation's presidency and underlined the importance of the Iraqi private sector's representation at the Arab and regional levels.

A separate meeting was held with the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr Khaled Hanafi, during which both sides emphasised the need for continued engagement and for activating the role of chambers of commerce in shaping the economic map between Arab states and their regional and international partners. Support for small and medium-sized enterprises and priority sectors was also discussed.

Al-Fahdawi also met with Iraq's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and international organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Dr Siouan Barzani. Discussions covered ways of strengthening cooperation between the federation and specialised international organisations in the fields of trade, economics and labour, as well as procedures for Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
