Two economic meetings have taken place in Paris between a delegation of Iraqi companies and representatives of the French employers' association Mouvement des Enterprises de France (MEDEF) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between Iraq's private sector and its French and international counterparts.
The delegation was led by Amer Khalaf Allawi, president of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The meetings were coordinated by the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, represented by the Iraqi commercial attaché in Paris.
According to the Ministry of Trade's media office, Riyad Fakher al-Hashimi, director general of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, said the meetings form part of the ministry's efforts to support Iraq's private sector and raise its profile in international economic forums. He added that both sides agreed to draw up a follow-up plan to translate the outcomes of the meetings into practical steps.
Al-Hashimi said the Iraqi commercial attaché in Paris also presented the importance of organising a delegation of French companies to participate in the 50th Baghdad International Fair, scheduled to run from 23 to 29 January 2027, describing the fair as a significant economic and trade platform for showcasing investment opportunities and fostering engagement between Iraqi and international business communities.
Representatives of MEDEF and the OECD expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Iraq's private sector and exploring available investment and trade opportunities.
