By John Lee.

Talks have taken place on the possible establishment of an Iraq-Canada Business Council to strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations between the two countries.

Malik Khalaf al-Durai'i, Director General of the Private Sector Development Department at the Ministry of Trade, met with the Vice President of the Canadian-Iraqi Business Council and an accompanying delegation to discuss the proposal.

The meeting covered the importance of creating an institutional framework to bring together the business communities of both countries, promote investment and trade opportunities, and facilitate connections between companies and entrepreneurs. The two sides also discussed the legal and administrative requirements for doing business in Iraq, and the facilities available to foreign companies and investors.

Both sides agreed to continue coordinating and exchanging information on the steps needed to establish the council and activate its role in supporting the private sector.
