A new agricultural pesticide factory has opened in the Karma Island area of Anbar province.
The Al-Tariq factory is affiliated with the General Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Supplies in Samarra, and was developed in partnership with a private-sector Iraqi pharmaceutical company, with support from specialist international firms.
The factory comprises four integrated production lines, including capacity for 5,000 litres per day of liquid pesticides and five tonnes per day of powder pesticides, as well as a dedicated line for manufacturing plastic pesticide containers. On-site laboratories for quality control and research are also included.
The facility is preparing to offer 27 pesticide varieties targeting a wide range of agricultural pests, pending registration and approval by the Ministry of Agriculture. The project is part of a broader drive to expand public-private partnerships, localise specialist industries, and reduce reliance on imports.
The opening was attended by Minister of Industry Mohammed Nouri Ahmed, the Minister of Agriculture Abdul-Rahim Jassim, the Governor of Anbar, the head of the Anbar provincial council, and the head of the Presidential Diwan.
