Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi met separately in New York with representatives of US oil companies HKN Energy and ExxonMobil, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
In the meeting with HKN Energy, al-Zaidi urged the company to accelerate operations and increase working hours on its projects and contractual commitments in Iraq, including efforts to raise oil output. Ross Perot, chairman of HKN Energy, led the company's delegation. The prime minister also referred to plans for a Baghdad Energy Conference at which new exploration blocks would be announced, describing them as significant investment opportunities for international companies. He said the government would work to remove obstacles that could delay project implementation.
In the meeting with ExxonMobil, discussions focused on expanding cooperation in oil exploration and field development. ExxonMobil's chief executive, Darren Woods, led the company's delegation. Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of leveraging the expertise and technology of major international companies to develop the oil sector in line with Iraq's goal of increasing production capacity.
