An Italian group will begin construction in a month's time on what will become Iraq's largest shipping port, the Iraqi transport minister announced Monday.
The delay in the renewal of the agreement for the operation of the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline has served a timely reminder of the many obstacles that still have to be overcome to fulfill its potential, both as an export route for Iraq and as a source of transit revenue for Turkey.
Iraq will sign on Thursday a communication agreement with Turkey, the Iraqi Communications Minister Faroq Abdilqadir said on Thursday. “The agreement will embrace different fields, including mail, Internet, and wire and wireless communication,” Abdilqadir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He said that Internet cables will pass through Turkey to link Iraq to Europe.
