Discussions have taken place on launching the second phase of the Financial Reform Support Programme in Iraq.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance under the chairmanship of Minister of Finance Taif Sami Mohammed, with a delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and a representative of the German Embassy in Iraq.
The talks focused on technical arrangements and timelines for the programme's second phase, including the use of a €13 million German grant, building on results achieved during the first phase.
Key areas discussed included:
- Provision of specialised technical advisory services
- Improving macroeconomic forecasting accuracy
- Capacity building in budget, accounting, public debt, economic and IT departments
- Modernisation of digital cash management systems
- Strengthening internal control and regulatory frameworks
The meeting also addressed enhancing staff efficiency through digital systems and strengthening financial management institutions to support broader economic reform. It was noted that the support is provided through non-repayable development grants, without creating debt or financial obligations for the public treasury.
