  • The Iraqi Securities Commission (ISC) has announced new efforts to enhance the attractiveness of the Iraq Stock Exchange (ISX), focusing on corporate governance and expanding the base of listed companies. ISC board member Wadhah al-Taha noted that the Commission plans to introduce new companies through initial public offerings (IPOs) aimed at encouraging domestic investors to engage with profitable firms that offer regular dividends.   • ISX suspended trading of the second issuance of Binaa bonds due to the distribution of semi-annual interest.

  • Under the patronage of Mr. Faisal Al-Haimus, Chairman of the Iraqi Securities Commission (ISC), a special ceremony was held on Monday to launch the Environmental and Social Governance Guide. In his speech, Mr. Al-Haimus emphasized that the launch of this guide comes within the framework of the Authority's efforts to promote sustainability principles in the securities market, and in line with global trends towards adopting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards in financial institutions and joint-stock companies. (ISC)
  • The ISC has approved the request of United Bank (BUND) to have a four-month extension period to add the new shares from the capital increase through a 16.67% rights issue to IQD350.0 bn starting from May 26, 2025.
  • Al Taif Islamic Bank (BTIB) decided to extend the subscription on 50.0 bn shares for another 60 days starting May 4, due to the incomplete subscription of the full amount during the first 60 days.

  • The Iraqi Securities Commission, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, announced the launch of a new electronic service for registering information about joint-stock and brokerage companies through the Republic of Iraq's government services portal, "Ur." (ISC)
  • A cross transaction occurred on 1.9 bn shares of Asia Al Iraq Islamic Bank (BAIB) on May 20, valued at IQD1.7 bn and corresponding to 0.8% of BAIB's capital.
  • The ISC has approved the request of National Bank of Iraq (BNOI) to have an extension period to add the new shares from the capital increase through a 30.0% bonus issue to IQD520.0 bn until Jun. 15, 2025.
  • The ISC has approved the request of Gulf Commercial Bank (BGUC) to have a four-month extension period to add the new shares from the capital increase through a 16.67% rights issue to IQD350.0 bn starting from May 7, 2025.

  • ISX requested Iraqi Engineering Works (IIEW) to explain why the prices touched the lower limit on May 7 and May 13.
  • The Chairman of the Iraqi Securities Commission and the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Iraq Stock Exchange participated in the Capital Markets Summit, which kicked off on Wednesday in the United Arab Emirates. The summit brought together a select group of heads of regulatory and financial bodies, representatives of financial markets, investors, and experts from various countries in the region and around the world. His Excellency's participation comes within the framework of the Commission and the market's commitment to enhancing regional and international cooperation and exchanging expertise on best regulatory and supervisory practices in the securities sector.   • CBI: Annual inflation in January 2025 decreased to 2.3% from 2.7% in December 2024.
  • Central Bank of Iraq's (CBI) net foreign assets realized at $98.0 bn as of Apr. 10, 2025 down by 1.9% since the end of 2024.
  • CBI announced February's data for Iraq's banking sector. Accordingly, total assets decreased 0.6% m/m to IQD201.0 trln ($153.4 bn) at end-February 2025, total deposits decreased 0.8% m/m to IQD120.4 trln ($91.9 bn) and total credits decreased by 0.4% m/m to IQD73.3 trln ($56.0 bn) at end-February 2025.
  • The capital, Baghdad, hosted the "Innovation Using Data" conference from Dell Technologies, a global technology company, to showcase the latest releases and technologies in modern information systems offered by Dell.   • Talaat Moustafa Group Holding, the largest real estate development company listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange, announced on Tuesday that it is in advanced negotiations with the Iraqi government to establish a new urban community in Iraq with expected sales of $17 bn. (Shafaq News)
  • The head of the Iraqi Private Banks Association, Wadee Al-Handal, announced on Monday that the Union of Arab Banks will hold its next conference in the capital, Baghdad, under the patronage of Iraqi PM Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, and in cooperation with the Central Bank and the association. (Shafaq News)
  • The Iraqi Private Banks Association confirmed on Monday that the Iraqi government has played a major role in achieving public-private partnerships, noting that electronic payments via bank cards have reached more than IQD21.1 trln ($16.0 bn). (INA)

  • Iraq's Ministry of Finance announced, on Thursday, the launch of its third national bond issuance for public subscription, with a total value of IQD2.262 trln ($1.7 bn). The Finance Ministry stated in a statement: "The categories offered are: a bond in the category of 500,000 dinars, with an annual interest of 8.0%, paid every six months for two years, and a bond in the category of 1,000,000 dinars, with an annual interest of 10.0%, paid every six months for four years," indicating: "The subscription period runs from April 20 to May 20, 2025."   • Faisal Al-Haimus, Chairman of the Iraqi Securities Commission (ISC), received Dr. Wajib Qanso, a member of the Board of Directors of the Lebanese Capital Markets Authority, during an official visit to the Commission's HQ. During the meeting, they discussed ways to exchange expertise and develop the financial markets in Iraq and Lebanon, which would contribute to supporting regional integration and enhancing the performance of Arab markets.   • A cross transaction occurred on 76.0 mn shares of Baghdad Hotel (HBAG) on Apr. 29, valued at IQD874.0 mn and corresponding to 1.9% of HBAG's capital.
  • According to the ISC decision on Apr. 28, 2025, the ISX will transfer United Bank (BUND) from the Undisclosed Companies Market (UCM) to the Regular Market (RM) starting May 4, 2025.
  • The procedures for quoting Dilnia Insurance (NDIL) on the OTC platform with its capital of IQD15.0 bn have been completed based on the instructions of the Securities Commission. The process of creating share certificates for the company's shareholders began on Apr. 29. Trading will be launched after depositing 5% of the capital, or after 21 days from the deposit start date.
  • AHliya For Insurance (NAHF) has completed the legal procedures for the capital increase through a 28.57% rights issue to IQD9.0 bn. (In its recent AGM, which was held on Jul. 2, 2024, the company decided to increase the paid-in capital from IQD7.0 bn to IQD15.0 bn through 114.3% rights issue)
  • The AGM of Middle East Producing & Marketing - Fish (AMEF) has been postponed to Apr. 29 due to a lack of quorum.

This follows nearly a year of joint work and ongoing engagement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Through this guide, the ISC seeks to institutionalize best practices for environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) standards into Iraqi business culture by making implementation mandatory for companies listed on the ISX.
